About the Scholarship

Craig Edward Swanson, a 1983 honors graduate of Frewsburg Central School, was tragically taken from us in September of 1991.

While at Frewsburg, Swanny, as he was always known, was a three-sport athlete; playing football, basketball and baseball. He was an all-league performer, especially talented in baseball, where he was awarded a baseball scholarship to Canisius College. Swanny played four years of baseball at Canisius, and graduated with a degree in Business. His career at Chase Lincoln was flourishing and Swanny continued to play baseball for the Frewsburg Legion semi-professional team.

Craig's family, loved ones, and friends wanted to see him remembered through an annual scholarship given to a senior athlete at Frewsburg, with preference to baseball, who most parallels Swanny's attributes of leadership, will to win, and gregariousness.

The first annual award was presented by Craig's former coach, William Hair, Sr., to Brian Nelson, a June 1992 graduate. Brian attended Baldwin-Wallace College where he played college level baseball. Brian was an honor student and a key member of the high school baseball team.
